Small Gardens

Small gardens are a way to cope up with space constraint, however they need not be less attractive than the bigger ones. Just get ideas to design your garden in a way to make illusion for bigger space and see your garden blooming and flourishing like a usual one. In addition to small garden design and ideas, you need to focus on aspects that can add attractions and mysteries to the small space and increase the interest of a visitor.

However, in no way, you should confine the small gardening space in straight lines and borders because this will make your garden look small, cramped and uninteresting. To help you make effective use of the whatever space you have for the development of a nice-looking garden, we suggest you some ideas here.

  • You can select different plants of varying colors, shapes, sizes and textures, but try to limit the selection to a chosen few in order to maintain unity and homogeneity.
  • You can also grow taller and bigger plants, however you should try to keep things in proportion. Whatever plants you choose must be in consistence with the space you have at your disposal.
  • Select your plants from the same species rather that from different types, and fill your garden with them to create a lush look.
  • Keep dark colored plants to the front of the planting areas and light-colored to the back. Similarly, rough-textured plants should be planted in front while the fine-textured ones in the back. Do not plant taller plants and trees in front of smaller ones because the former will hide the latter and make your garden look smaller.
  • Giving a curvaceous look to your garden can make things appear larger than their actual size. Walkways or flower beds can be designed in this way to give an illusion of extended space.
  • Another good idea could be to divide your gardening space into smaller compartments, such as adding raised beds or things like arbors, trellises, bridges etc in order to create an element of mystery and also make the space look bigger.
  • You can also consider adding lots of d้cor, ornaments and other articles of interest. Keep your plants and things in groups of same color, size and theme to maintain unity throughout the garden.
  • Keeping the colors of wall in a hue of light shade will give an illusion of bigger space. Give shadowy appearance to a corner wall by painting it in dark colors. You can grow here lots of bushy plants to create mysterious look and give the appearance of a never ending garden.
  • You can also use mirrors or glass walls to virtually double the size of your garden.
  • Add small pools or some kind of water bodies to create illusions of extended space in small gardens.
